Weather Normalization Analysis
A weather normalized analysis requires that PaceControls compare energy consumption and “heating degree days” or “cooling degree days” to identify the amount of energy used per heating degree day/or cooling degree day during the periods with and without PaceController technology in operation.
This allows for a precise and fair analysis of energy use and compensates for weather variations during the test period. “Degree days” are statistics kept by the National Weather Service and are intended to be useful tools to account for actual weather conditions that change from day to day when assessing heating or cooling fuel consumption.
One degree day is tabulated for each mean daily temperature (average of the daily maximum and minimum temperatures) variation from 65°F. For example, if the mean temperature for all 30 days in April were exactly 60 degrees, that April would have had 5 x 30 heating degree days or 150 for the month. Cooling degree days are the same for temperatures above 65.
